Kill Pollution Or Let It Kill You!
Gosh! I’ve no intention to be preachy with my post. Nor have I planned a ‘ridiculous speech’ to get on your nerves. I know you are just like me who don’t want to be lectured on what you ought to do.
And pollution! Everybody knows pollution is the most alarming issue today. The contaminated particles leak into the environment and pollute it. Simple! Air pollution, soil pollution, water pollution, noise pollution, plastic pollution, radioactive pollution… there is no end!
In the process of urbanisation and making our present comfortable we completely ignored the obvious future. In the name of development we cut the natural-air supply. What’s new?
Na… nothing.Today we are at the brink of drowning ourselves in the amenities we created for our comfort. Vehicles, industries, mobile phones, fertilizers, plastics; the boon is a bane in disguise.
Irony!
*They say- Vehicles and Industries contribute a major chunk to pollution. Minimise the use of motor-vehicles because this is the only solution.
**My plea- Commuting is a big problem now a days. It’s difficult for a person without motor vehicle to survive urban life. Carpool is possible only up to some extent. And how will you close all industry?
*They say- Don’t use plastic, it’s hazardous!
**My plea- Not possible! Every essential commodity comes in plastic cover. Milk, wheat, sugar, pulses or clothes, toys, mobile phones- everything is wrapped in easily available plastic.
Many of these things have plastic as the main constituent. This is ridiculous to suggest that we should stop using plastic completely.
Air pollution equation has been showing polluting results from the very beginning of urbanisation. Vehicles, construction, mining, agriculture, warfare, radioactive activities; all these are too heavy to balance the right side of green Earth.
*They say- Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
**My Plea- With rising population, the demand for every commodity is increasing day by day.
More demand= More production = More Industry = More Pollution (=More lectures)
The how and what of “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle” is not taught in schools. About 80-90% of the Indian people must not have heard the phrase “Reduce Reuse and Recycle”; leave the urge to carry out the procedure. Those who have heard the about the urgency says,” I want to reduce, reuse and recycle but it requires me to go an extra mile and I don’t want to bother myself!!”
We never fall short of excuses when there’s a need for extra effort. We love our today and don’t want to spoil it. Our short-sightedness fails to recognize the horrors of pollution. Sadder part is that the undeniable future is almost here right at the doorstep knocking with an evil smile.
People are suffering from diseases never seen before. Medicine is baffled by the rise in ailing people across the globe. Technology is a bliss as it helps in finding better treatment everyday.
But.
Who is responsible for the increasing number of health issues? Stress, anxiety, depression, pollution….. Where were these disorders a hundred or two hundred years back?
We know but don’t want to accept that we misused technology. Researchers ease the act of living with latest technologies. These products are instantly distributed to masses without even knowing the impact of their usage. The radiation, the behavioural effects or some other unknown side-effects; common people (Including Myself) don’t bother to go into the details.
The situation is grave and we have no time to ignore the indications nature is giving us. Please find the meaning of “Reduce Reuse and Recycle” and do the needful. Save natural resources, carpool, minimize the use of plastic. Find more tips on internet.
Save Earth- Our only home.

You spoke my mind Aditi. Isnt that what I feel most of the times when I have to practice the principles for reducing the pollution, carbon foot print and what not. But as rightly mentioned by you, for betterment of future generations / times, we must find our own ways to follow the principles of ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’. To begin with, now a day, I always carry a cotton bag in my purse so that I dont add to the plastic waste.

Ignorance is not a bliss in this case. Our schools must teach children how to reduce pollution in effective manner. Good that you carry a cloth bag with you while shopping:)

Hey! I disagree with your point of view when you write that stopping use of plastics is not possible and that plastics are our life. We need to find ways to stop using plastics… and this needs a few sacrifices from each of us.

The whole culture that has been adopted to pollute the environment requires thorough change to stop the natural disasters entering our life by pollution at every stage. Availability of things which causes pollution need to be checked and stopped and substitute should come into being for people to use.
Nice awareness post and people need to adhere and government and other agencies need to initiate steps to curb pollution in all possible ways.

We can never have enough on this topic. Because human as we are, we read and forget. Ergo, we should constantly remind ourselves on how we can contribute towards a healthier planet. I agree that eliminating plastics is not always feasible. But reduce, reuse and recycle is very much possible. I have been implementing it for quite a while now. And been advocating the same.

Won’t it be more motivating to segregate waste if the government incorporates some policy to atleast pick up different wastes differently. Even if we make even two bins one for recyle and one for waste, it still will be thrown in common waste and hence wont make a difference. I went to Kolkata many years ago and lived in some place where it was medatory for people to segregate the waste. Don’t know if it was prevalent in the entire city or just that society. A very nice and thoughtful post. We must do something for our environment. Also the news of cutting thousands of trees in SouthDelhi is an example that nobody cares about future.

So true. “We love our today and don’t want to spoil it. Our short-sightedness fails to recognize the horrors of pollution”. Last year the Delhiites had such a scare regarding air pollution and for a few months, the government and the people did take some proactive steps but then just as the situation seemed to improve a bit, just about everyone stopped and gave up their efforts. Everything was back to square one. It’s like people are still not realising the gravity of the situation. Unless we come out of our comfort zone and start making a few sacrifices (stopping the use of plastic or at least minimising it to the least, using our own vehicles only when it’s absolutely necessary and instead using carpooling or other means of public transport, recycling and reusing rather than dumping them and making all these a regular habit rather than a one-off exercise), things are not going to improve.

You’re right. Dangers of pollution range from simple coughing to incurable diseases. Why we’re turning blind eye to the situation I don’t know. Here I also included myself. As I’m writing this, I know I will store vegetables in plastic, buy milk in plastic, shop in plastic, even eat in plastic! Horrible!
