Why the Religion?

Why the Religion

I’m quite sure when they started the concept of Religion, the aim was to bring peace and harmony in the society. Evolving from hunter-gatherers to a part of agrarian cultures, there was a need to practice self-control and patience. These social skills were needed to stay together to mature into better beings. The wiser men came up with the ideas of Religion and God.

The question arises, “Is God a delusion?”

Religion came into existence to bring people closer to each other. The question is not whether God exists or not. There has to be some affinity that binds living things together. An unknown, unseen force takes control of each phenomenon in this universe. And this particular force is named as God!

The man was an animal like other animals. He used to kill other animals, fight brutally for a piece of meat and roam about naked. Without any feeling of apology, he snatched, killed and forcibly acquired belongings of others. At that time, religion was introduced. One thing is clear that religion made humans better than the animals.

Today, the man who was one among the animals is far more superior than the rest of living creatures. He is a cultured animal who stays within his boundaries… Or you have something else to say? I know what’s in your mind.

The journey from animal to human was not easy. But the return journey is easier. I’m not overstating but the man is on his way to get lost in the wilderness again. I don’t endorse any religion but there has to be a control on the freedom humans enjoy. If sympathy and empathy do not occur naturally, that’s happening now, fear of the unknown should be there.

The last few years has seen religion in the worst ever form where humanity took a beating in the form of lynching. Very well written and sensible post.

Good one. Being from south, where you are chased from every angle for conversion from missionary people, I can say this is a nightmare. As long as you keep quiet, they push, and the moment you raise question they easily play victim. Add to that every govt plays into the minority cards based on religion and hope they soon change this with ones financial position!

Ahh..Religion? what it is? Following a believe system, its a cult…following a moral code, its a culture, and Believing in existence of God, its Theism.

But then ancient people, found magic, reverence and gratitude in nature and its force…and this believe, fear, respect of something unknown, something powerful created religion. Alas, following human greed for power, it become more and more political, hurting and killing the non believers and present society came into existence.

So, for me..religion would be in its purest form…thriving in Philosophy, Spirituality regardless of belief in God or not. 🙂

Imagine, the time when the concept of religion came into existence. It must be an idea of wiser men of the society to bring order in otherwise chaotic system.
Alas, man is distorting things for his meanness.

I agree with your thoughts. Religion was born to end the chaos and provide a system in conducting our lives in an orderly fashion, with more humanity… but alas at present time, for this very religion, people are slowly leading the society back to the chaos. This is one case where I wish the things don’t come back in full circle.

Circle is law of life. We inhale and exhale. We sleep and wake. And so do our behavior as an individual and as a species. It’s very peculiar though, to see how handful of animalistic humans blot the whole species. I always wonder when individually everyone feels right in what they do, how come while humanity is blotted with negative remarks!? Has any of you thought in this direction? I like to understand more on psychology of species, which is key here, than individual. Then we can use religion’s teachings for betterment at large, I guess.

Not sure if humans are “superior”. How do we define superior? Because we can solve math equations? We haven’t solved greed, social crime, theft, inequality, environmental destruction,..etc. none of these exists in the non-human animal world, I read a book called “Are we smart enough to know how smart animals are”, by Dr Fraans De Waal, a leading ethologis (studying cognitive evolution) and started looking at all species with a different perspective.

Humans were lucky to have some features that are considered to be a blessing…but they are basically animals and are proving it again and again.

We think we are superior because there’s nobody to challenge humans today. That’s it. The complex is creating a huge lot of problems in surviving.

    3. Hints to the Ancient Wisdom. says:

I think superior interms of ” potential “. Humans are potential to be a harmonious link. They tame flesheating and grass eating beings, grow plants and crops, etc., Which no other being can do. No other species involves in development of other species. They may be symbiotic, not not developping or enriching. With this potential comes potential of harm and destruction.

So in any regard you take, human stands as Superior being. How you call good or bad varies from perspective. A mobile phone is good for us in this gen. But it’s bad for env, for we use a factory to produce it which intrun affects env. Yet, phone is needed to save a human or animals life in emergency. So superiority lies in absolute potential capacity, but not in qualitative character.

    1) Religion is like a university in which you get the education on yourself/spirit. So doesn’t matter what university, education is same.

    2) Humans did not start hunting. If that were the case, they would have been having teeth akin to tiger or Jackal. Our teeth structure shows humans were frugivorous ….long long back ….well this is debated among scientists and let’s leave it to them. I am opening a possibility to think on parallel alternate logics here.

    3) I very much like the statement of Man slipping to animal behavior is easy than the hard way of evolution from vice versa. Class!!
