Bollywood songs form a huge part of Indians lives. The craze for Bollywood songs becomes visible right from when the baby is in the cradle. My affair with Bollywood dates back to the day I landed on planet Earth. Bollywood songs sneaked into my mom’s lullabies from the corners of the Record Player, my father’s inseparable companion. As I opened my eyes to explore the world, larger than life Bollywood movies miraculously tampered with my thoughts. Growing up with Bollywood was like a dream I didn’t want to be woken up from.
I’m sure your mothers might have sung you lullabies from the Bollywood movies when you were young. If you are a Bollywood fan, there’s a probability that those similar lullabies have a special place in the bedtime of your children.
Did you say yes? Hehe, I was right!:)
A lullaby is a soothing song that’s sung to or played for children to help them sleep. Sometimes the lullabies are sung or played to pass on cultural values and heritage.
I’m sharing some of my favourite lullabies from Bollywood movies. You will notice that the lullabies never grow old. Those from the old movies sound as fresh as from the new ones. Play my list and share your views in the comments section.
Naani Teri Morni Ko Mor Le Gaye
The 1960s song ‘Naani Teri Morni Ko Mor Le Gaye’ is beautifully sung by Ranu Mukherjee, daughter of legendary Music Director Hemant Kumar. You can’t miss the lovely acting skills of little Honey Irani. Movie : Masoom
Chandamama door ke
Sung by Asha Bhosle, this 1955 lullaby is sung even today by mothers. Do you remember the lyrics?:)
The movie is Vachan starring Geeta Bali and Rajendra Kumar.
Lakdi ki Kathi, Kathi pe Ghoda
This is from the 1983 movie Masoom. You can see young Urmila Matondkar and Jugal Hansraj in the song. Though not a lullaby, it’s popular among kids and can be sung during bedtime.

Mere Ghar Aayi Ek Nanhi Pari
This beautiful song is sung by legend Lata Mangeshkar for the film Kabhie Kabhie (1976). Another song to sing for your babies and make them feel loved:)
Lalla Lalla Lori Doodh Ki Katori
Sung by singer Mukesh, the song never failed to slide into our moms lullabies. It’s from the movie Mukti (1977).
Gudiya rani Bitiya rani
This lori-song was also sung by Lata Mangeshkar for the film Lamhe (1991)
The actress seen here is Waheeda Rahman.
Chanda hai Tu mera Suraj hai Tu
Lata Mangeshkar sang this song for the movie ‘Aradhana’ (1969) starring Sharmila Tagore and Rajesh Khanna.
Surmayee akhiyon mein ikk nanha munna sapna de ja re
This lovely song is from one of my favourite movies, Sadma starring Kamal Hassan and Sridevi. It’s sung by K. J. Yesudas.
Main Gaoon Tum So Jao
Mohammad Rafi sang this beautiful song for Shammi Kapoor starrer 1968 film ‘Brahmachari’
Do naina Ek Kahani
Again from the 1983 movie Masoom, this emotional song is sung by Aarti Mukherjee.

I wanted someone to point this out. While searching for Bollywood lullabies, all popular entries were from old movies. We need more children songs and lullabies.

Feeling nostalgic! All the lullabies from Bollywood you listed here make me feel so emotional. “Bitiya rani” is equally emotional though I am hearing it the first time. Saving this song to my list.

I’m a total Bollywood mom and have sung most of these lullabies to my kids. Not a lullaby but Phoolon ka taaro ka was my son’s favourite after my daughter was born.

I think I have sung all these lullabies for my kids and my mom for me. I remember one more.. Yashoda ka nand la-la..don’t remember the movie but I think Jaya bhadudi was there.
