Shahrukh Khan’s ZESTFUL Journey To Stardom in Bollywood

Fondly known as King Khan of the Bollywood industry, Shahrukh Khan began his acting career as a soldier in the Doordarshan series ‘Fauji‘ (1988). He earned recognition with this series and started getting roles on television and the Bollywood film industry. Deewana (1992) was his first Bollywood film in which he appeared in a supporting role. In 1993 he played negative characters in the movies ‘Baazigar’ and ‘Darr’ that garnered him recognition. Remember Shahrukh uttering,” K.K..K.K.K…K…Kiran?”
The supposed-to-be-hero actor playing a negative part was a bit shocking but the audience accepted that with open arms. Both the movies were a huge success at the box office. After that, there was no looking back for the actor. The ground for massive fan-following had already been created.

I know writing about Shahrukh Khan will never be sufficient, however, there’s no harm in discussing his best movies. Let’s go on a joy ride:)

1) Darr

I remember watching this movie changed my perception of the protagonist in Bollywood. A protagonist can play a villainous character and charm the audience; you got to watch Darr to understand it better. The negative role suited Shahrukh Khan so much that he nearly eclipsed the Hero of the movie;)

2) Maya Memsaab

Maya Memsaab was another movie of Shahrukh that I liked because of its unusual content. His co-star Deepa Sahi played an interesting role. Sadly, the movie was a flop at the box office.

3) Karan Arjun

Karan Arjun was a commercially successful film with a big star cast. TV channels don’t forget to play it repeatedly even today. Shahrukh and Salman came together as brothers and people liked it. I have no record of any other film starring the two superstars.

4) Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge

So much has been said about DDLJ that I feel short of words now. The movie ran for 25 YEARS in the Maratha Mandir theatre in Mumbai with an occupancy of 200-300 people daily.

5) Pardes

Another interesting Shahrukh movie. He had already established a lover boy image with his previous movies and Pardes was a role he completely fitted in.

6) Dil to Pagal Hai

One of my favourite movies of Shahrukh also starred Madhuri Dixit and Karisma Kapoor. Beautiful music and dance sequences were a bonus for the fans.

7) Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

Do you remember the chemistry of Kajol and Shahrukh in KKHH? I loved that. And Rani Mukherjee never looked so beautiful! Do you agree?

8) Mohabbatein

A big star cast along with dominant Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai was the USP of Mohabbatein. Do watch if you haven’t already.

9) Aśoka

Aśoka was Shahrukh’s own production. The period film didn’t do well at the box office but I loved watching it. It’s another experiment by Shahrukh Khan to do things differently.

10) Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham…

A family film where brothers separate due to some misunderstanding and the reunion happens in the end.

11) Devdas

There was an old Bollywood movie by the same title where legendary Dilip Kumar played the role of Devdas. Shahrukh did it in his signature style and won hearts.

12) Kal Ho Naa Ho

An emotional drama where Shahrukh knows that he’s going to die. It was ‘Anand’ with Rajesh Khanna but ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’ has a different take on the similar theme.

13) Main Hoon Na

A multi-genre movie where an army man goes undercover and joins a college to protect a General’s daughter.

14) Veer-Zaara

The love story of an Indian pilot and a Pakistani girl. Preity Zinta and Shahrukh Khan were the perfect choices for the lead roles.

15) Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna

A story of complicated relationships, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna was an experiment with a new subject. Lovely music topped the charts.

16) Don/Don2

The remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s Don, Shahrukh left no stone unturned to steal the show.

17) Chak De! India

One of the best motivational films of the Indian film industry, Chak De India witnessed Shahrukh Khan as the coach of the Indian Women’s National hockey team.

18) Om Shanti Om

Om Shanti Om is the story of the rebirth of a man, played by Shahrukh. Deepika Padukone debuted with this movie and instantly became our favourite.

19) Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi

Shahrukh plays the role of a simple man who transforms himself to win over his wife. Anushka Sharma looked great with Shahrukh.

20) My Name Is Khan

Shahrukh plays a man who is suffering from Asperger’s syndrome. After Twin Tower attack, he is determined to change the perception of society about the Muslim community.

21) Ra.one

Ra.one is the movie of the virtual characters developed by humans. It’s another ‘hat ke’ story that the audience appreciated.

22) Jab Tak Hai Jaan

Jab Tak Hai Jaan is a romantic movie that revolves around a bomb-disposal expert (Shahrukh), a journalist (Anushka) and a businesswoman (Katrina Kaif)

23) Chennai Express

On his way to immerse his grandfather’s ashes at Rameshwaram, a man meets a girl in the train who happened to be the sister of a Don.

24) Dear Zindagi

In Dear Zindagi, Shahrukh Khan plays the role of a psychiatrist who uses unconventional methods to treat Alia Bhatt.

25) Raees

Shahrukh plays the role of a bootlegger who tries to improve the condition of his community but falls into a political trap.

The role of Shahrukh Khan is not confined to Bollywood movies only. His performing mastery and confidence has evolved our lives the way these are now:)
