State Of Siege: 26/11 Revisited: ZEE5 Original

Our TV watching pattern is revolutionized by the OTT platforms. Today, we have a choice to watch movies and web-series from a great many options. There’s no scarcity of online extravaganza and the viewers are pampered with amazing content. ZEE5 being one of my favourite platforms for watching movies, I keep an eye on the latest releases there.

With the release of 8-episode series ‘State Of Siege:26/11‘, ZEE5 proved to be one of the most sought after channels in terms of creating original content. The web-series, centered around the 2008 Mumbai terror attack, is based on journalist Sandeep Unnithan’s book, Black Tornado: The Three Sieges Of Mumbai 26/11. The book is said to reveal many unknown facts about the country’s horrific terror attack.

ย ย  About 166 people were killed and more than 300 were injured in a series of terrorist attacks that shook Mumbai in November 2008. 10 members of the terrorist group, Lashkar-e-Taiba carried out the shooting and bombing incident that lasted for four days. The terrorists attacked Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Railway Station, Cafe Leopold, Cama and Albless Hospital, Nariman House, Trident Hotel and The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. Our brave NSG commandoes, Mumbai Police and marine commandoes killed nine terrorists and one, Mohd. Ajmal Kasab was caught alive.

Check out the trailer of State Of Siege: 26/11

State Of Siege: 26/11 doesn’t over-dramatise the incident. NSG commandoes are shown as common people rather than superheroes. The show begins with the NSG dealing with the rationing of weapons and ammunition. First few episodes revolve around how attacks are planned and the efforts of Mumbai Police to handle the situation. NSG enters to deal with the crisis only in the sixth episode. On 26th November 2008, people like us were aghast why NSG( National Security Guards) took so much time in coming and controlling the crisis. This web-series is in our platter to make us aware of what was happening at the NSG HQ at that time.

The series also highlights the way poison is injected into young minds by religious fundamentalists to create destruction in the world. One episode, ‘Jihad- The making of a Terrorist’ is all about the production of terrorists. The spectacular star cast together with the direction of Mathew Leutwyler makes ‘State Of Siege:26/11’, a complete package to entertain you.

*The character of Arjun Bijlani is based on Martyr Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan and he gave his best to the role.

* Arjan Bajwa is in the role of Col Kunal Sahota, the commanding officer of the NSG unit that was given the job to handle 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks.

* Mukul Dev is impressive as the leader of the terrorist group who brainwashes the youngsters in the name of religion.

Overall, ZEE5 Original, State Of Siege:26/11 is a good watch for those who want to know more about NSG commandoes and their lives. The web-series established a balance between telling the horrific terror attack of 26/11 and the background story showing NSG commandoes’ point of view.

It’s the collective effort of the commandoes, brilliant technique and patriotic spirit that we remember 26/11 attacks as a the success story of National Security Guards.

Warning – Do not miss this series!

Bollywood inspired Sleeveless Blouse Designs

We are certainly inspired by Bollywood stars. The way they dress up and make heads turn catches everybody’s fancy. Women are always looking for new ideas to design their costumes and Bollywood divas never fail to prompt them with terrific suggestions. Have you ever noticed how the Bollywood-ladies slay in Sleeveless Blouse Designs! I find it extremely fascinating to study and here are my observations:)

๐ŸŒบThough women have access to a great variety of blouse sleeve designs, they are equally open to the idea of sleeveless alternatives. Whether they are attending happening parties or family functions, sleeveless blouse unfailingly makes a stunning statement. Sleeveless Blouses are trending and the best ones are found in the wardrobes of Bollywood actresses;)

๐ŸŒบThe next and the best thing is to think about Bollywood for inspiration. You may ask, why? Well, while looking for something, it’s natural to search for the most beautiful related things around. You can’t overlook sensational Sushmita Sen in the movie ‘Main Hoon Na’ where she is always seen in chiffon flowy sarees and sleeveless blouses. In ‘Badtameez Dil’ song from ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’ Deepika Padukone flaunted Manish Malhotra designed blue saree with a sequinned border. Her strappy blouse with sheer straps and gold sequins stole the show. I totally loved the way she carried herself in the song sequence. Every woman should bookmark these two looks for anytime reference:)

Ahh..there’s so much to learn from the Bollywood ladies.

๐ŸŒบStylish and sexy, the saree-blouse ensembles showcased in the movies are sure to die for. I know it’s the attitude that rules above all, but the dress has to be given a credit for deciding the attitude. I have stolen (sic) some sleeveless blouse designs from the actresses closets. You are free to copy the design and recreate the look for your wonderful get-together.

Bollywood Sleeveless Blouse

๐ŸŒบEvery girl has the intention to leave a powerful impact on the people around her. With a nice saree and a matching blouse, she can never go wrong. Elegant saree builds your impression. Gorgeous sleeveless blouse completes the look.

There are some points to take into consideration while dressing up in a saree and a sleeveless blouse:

โœ” Make sure you have plenty of time to invest in searching for an elegant sleeveless blouse.

โœ” For hourglass figures, there’s nothing like going sleeveless in summer. For the women on the heavier side, it depends on how they carry the sleeveless. Sometimes, plump women flaunt it better than the leaner ones.

โœ” Go for a plain blouse with a heavily embroidered saree. Heavy work on the blouse works great for the plain saree.

โœ” Don’t hesitate to steal the look of Bollywood actresses because there’s nothing unfair in it;)

Where Has My Decade Gone?

With utter annoyance, I looked back at my last few days that just vanished. I was confined to bed due to some viral infection and my movement had been restricted. Plenty of pending office work, overflowing cupboards and unclean mirrors were teasing me. Been away from the routine for almost ten days and it seemed that bouncing back to the normal would require a lot of extra effort from me. And, these were only ten days.

When my friends Rashi and Manas came up with a blog hop, I literally jumped on the wagon. It was only after the revelation of the theme ‘Decade’ that I started feeling sick. Here the word sick doesn’t specifically refer to physically unfit. Yes, I was attacked by some viral infection and hence imprisoned in my room. What I want to say is that physical ailment is only one part of the story. Another ingredient, that makes it multi-dimensional, is the fear of looking back at the significant ten years that just passed. If I recall the personal achievements of the ‘gone’ ten years, nothing extraordinary occurs to my mind. There were some short-lived celebrity moments but I don’t register them as long term satisfaction. While many people are posting 10-year challenge pictures on social media, I’m struggling with my short-lived memory.
Meanwhile, to my surprise, the world is changed to a great extent. Great to the extent that I need not stress my mind to get the facts clear. The achievements of the world, as a whole, are quite visible in our daily lives. Sadly, not all of them are worth appreciating.

1) Climate Change

In the last few years, we have become used to the term ‘Climate Change’. Saving the environment was never considered an emergency until the last decade. Human development has turned the green environment into a hazard.

Yes, we are affected: Extreme weather conditions are making our lives unbearable. We are scared to eat fruits, drink milk and even breathe.
The explanation is in our celebrated inventions like industry and infrastructure that are creating havoc.

2) Internet

Today, our existence has become meaningless without internet. We want our smartphones and laptops connected to high-speed internet. Any failure, in any case, makes us furious. I’m one among you who can’t tolerate slow Internet.
The reason is quite simple. All our activities are now hovering in cyberspace. From wristwatch to telegram, everything is replaced by smartphones. The powerful by-product, Social Media has also revolutionized the way we interact.

3) Technology Blast

Technology has sneaked into almost every aspect of our lives. Communication, shopping, banking, commuting, almost all factors have become faster and easier than before. OTT platforms made us access our movies anytime and anywhere.
We are the Google-generation who can find answers to the queries instantly.
Keeping all benefits in mind, there’s a feeling that our dependence on technology has cut short our thinking ability.
..Well, maybe not and this is just a short-lived thought.

4) Media and Social Media

Well, Media needs a special mention here as it has shaped our lives the way nobody had ever expected. Get instant news as they break, buy-sell things and create a network of pals online. Woah, it has literally blown my mind but who cares anyway.
Today, our virtual friends and followers list is far bigger than real friends. The irony is that sometimes we don’t find anybody to talk to in actual life when the internet is down;)

5) Mental Health added as an important part of overall health

In the ten years that recently completed, we can see a lot of people talking about mental health issues frankly. Ten years ago, the definition of health included physical and mental health but usually, only physical health issues were addressed. Discussing mental health was considered a taboo. With the rise in psychological disturbances, the need to address these issues increased by a huge proportion. I am glad that even celebrities choose to express their thoughts on the significance of Mental Health.

Exclusive Pakistani Suits to Adorn Your Look

And, I stumbled upon this website to find the elaborate range of beautiful Pakistani Suits. My eyes got glued to the exquisite designs and delicate details of the traditional wear. Believe me, it’s the first online destination where I found an abundance of gorgeous Pakistani Suits; women are spoilt for choice.

Pakistani Suits

The scenario- Wedding of a close relative

It was cousin’s wedding and my search for the ethnic dresses had lasted a bit longer. Irritated by my long shopping schedules, mom gave up and instructed me to shop online. Getting traditional wear online is not an easy task and when the shopping is for cousin’s wedding, the aim to kill with the looks can’t be ignored;)

Weddings are a big reason to celebrate our presence on Earth. We meet people, close and distant in relation. We laugh and dance to welcome the bond of two people. We create moments as pictures that enrich our albums. Such occasions are considered a success to a big extent if we dress suitably. My situation was somewhat crucial. I couldn’t find a perfect traditional dress to make heads turn on my cousin’s wedding day. On mom’s instructions, I thought of searching for perfection ‘online’.

Online shopping is my favourite mode of shopping. A lazy person like me who spends most of her time in a chair with a laptop can’t be happier if shopping is done within four walls of the house. On that particular wedding, all the sisters had decided to go for a traditional look. I began my investigation and concluded that we can find everything on the internet! Yes, literally:)

What I Purchased Online

You will be surprised to know that I got the original ‘Sana Safinaz in India‘ at a huge discount! Sana Safinaz is popular designer wear in Pakistan. Famous for high-end clothes; the luxurious bridal and semi-western designs, the brand attracts customers from around the world.

The beautiful collection is selling like hotcakes and I consider myself fortunate to have purchased one, online.

Sana Safinaz in India

Tada! My mission to get a perfect traditional piece online was successful. My purchase was approved by mom and she bookmarked the website for future consideration. As far as I was concerned, my enthusiasm for the function reached the peak.
Yes, it did make a powerful impact on the atmosphere. No need to say that the centre of attention was converging around me (or the Sana Safinaz I was wearing;)

Your Go-To Guide to Clean Beauty

Guest Post

Clean Beauty is something we all beauty enthusiasts are fascinated by. But not many of us know what it actually means. In this technically advanced world, it is tough to find completely natural things.

Thanks to the beauty world that beauty is taking quite a holistic approach these days. But when we think of clean beauty, we tend to realize that the products found in the market have a medicinal feel, or they are luxurious or fancy. However, that is not always the case.

Clean beauty today has grown a lot and has kept its consumer preferences in mind. In this article, we will share with you everything about clean beauty, which will definitely change your concept of clean beauty.

What Is Clean Beauty?

The concept of Clean Beauty might sound quite simple, but it is actually quite intense. It means using safe products to get clean skin. It, basically, means using non-toxic products that are formulated with all-natural ingredients and do not have a long list of ingredients with potential side effects.
There have not been any amendments to the beauty industry. It was 1938 when any changes were made, which basically means that the companies are free to experiment with whatever ingredients they like.
Therefore, the concept of clean beauty is quite new and, therefore, scary. However, many beauty brands are going down the clean road, and they are formulating products that are free from chemicals, parabens, and all sorts of harmful ingredients.
Clean beauty is all about long-lasting effects and sustainability. Finding products that are luxurious yet clean is hard to find. However, once you try them, you wouldnโ€™t want to replace them in any way. You can find some beauty blogs that share product reviews on diverse beauty products that include clean beauty ones as well.

Clean Beauty

Even though clean and natural mean the same thing, they are quite different. Clean can either be synthetic or natural. However, clean products are those who are easily accepted and processed by the body. So, clean beauty products are safe for use even for sensitive skin, and they are not meant to cause any disease, hormonal imbalances, disruptions, or irritation.

Benefits of Using Clean Beauty Products

Now that we have learned what clean beauty is, let us now see some of the benefits of using clean beauty products.

โ€ข The first and foremost would be that there is no fragrance. The fragrance is particularly irritating to sensitive skin. Most beauty brands do not provide a whole list of the harmful ingredients but club them together under fragrance. The use of fragrance is good enough to understand that it is not clean and can have massive side effects.

โ€ข Clean beauty products do not contain ingredients that harm the hormonal balances. These ingredients are known as endocrine disrupters, and as the name suggests, they mess with your endocrine system harming your metabolism, reproductive processes and can also mess with your mood. These problems are pretty dangerous, and they are barely noticeable at first. So clean beauty products are formulated with such ingredients that they do not mean any harm to your body and skin.

โ€ข Clean beauty products do not include ingredients that can cause cancer popularly known as carcinogens. Most makeup, skincare, and body care products include carcinogens such as formaldehyde as a preservative to increase the shelf life of the product. Using these products in the long can be highly dangerous.

โ€ข These clean beauty products do not contain parabens, which are another preservative used in most products to prevent bacteria growth and keep them fresh for long. These chemicals are known to mimic estrogens, and studies have found that they can cause a potential risk of cancer and also reproductive issues.

โ€ข Clean beauty products also do not contain Sodium Lauryl Sulphate popularly known as SLS, as this is considered to be a major skin irritant. Studies have shown that it can also contribute to cancer, but there is not enough evidence for this. However, SLS is used in products to produce larger, which gives you the squeaky-clean feeling. But this is a major ingredient to stay away from as it is potentially dangerous to aquatic life as well.

Tips for Switching to Clean Beauty

If you are considering a swap in your regular and beauty routine, then we are here to provide you with all the help and support you need. Here are some of the tips to consider before you actually make the switch.

โ€ข Educate yourself before switching to clean beauty products. Do not buy products the ingredient list of which you cannot pronounce. Go for simpler and plant-based ingredients, completely organic. Also, look for products with lesser ingredients and also which are oil-based because they will not have any preservatives.

โ€ข Many apps can provide you with the toxicity count if any product and can also tell you the ingredients to avoid. Screen your products and firm a proper understanding of the ingredients to avoid before you actually make the switch. The ingredients mentioned on the top of the ingredient list is more potent than the ingredients which are lower on the last. So, the label might contain the name of any herb or plant, but it may be mentioned at the very bottom of the ingredients list. So, it is advisable not to buy it as the product is entirely chemically derived, and the organic ingredient is just for namesake.

โ€ข Do not buy anything with fragrance. As discussed earlier, the fragrance does not only mean the smell or color of the product, but it also has a hidden meaning of too many chemicals being used in the product. Some of these ingredients are potentially dangerous and can also disrupt your hormones. So, do not be deceived if the name on the label reads 100% organic.

โ€ข Most of the plant-based ingredients are often mentioned by their scientific names. They also often write in italics. So, look for these names to make sure that your product is derived from organic sources and is not synthetic.

โ€ข Try buying you clean beauty products form boutiques or websites which deal with completely clean products. Because most pharmacies and drug stores do sell chemically loaded products rather than being completely clean.

โ€ข Be experimental and choose natural ingredients according to your skin needs and concerns. Select products with aloe vera, essential oils, shea butter, virgin coconut oil, and many more. These will not only moisturize and hydrate your skin but will also keep your skin healthy in the long run.

Toxic Ingredients to Avoid

Since the understanding of the ingredients is a crucial step in switching to clean beauty. Here is a list of toxic ingredients that you should avoid before you buy a product.

โ€ข Ethylene Oxide
โ€ข Formaldehyde
โ€ข Lanolin
โ€ข Parabens
โ€ข Keratin
โ€ข Synthetic Colours
โ€ข Fragrance
โ€ข Phthalates
โ€ข Triclosan
โ€ข Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS)
โ€ข Toluene
โ€ข Propylene Glycol

How Does Clean Beauty Help the Environment?

Clean beauty products become clean, considering two main factors, the ingredients list, and the packaging.
Clean beauty strives to use sustainable and recyclable products, which reduces the environmental impact. These products not only use biodegradable products that promote healthy soil but also use an eco-friendly manufacturing process that does not pollute our lands and waterways.

These tiny gestures can also contribute a lot in saving the environment, and you can use beauty products that are not only safe for you but also for the Earth.

Clean beauty is not a movement but a feeling. If you want to stay healthy and feel beautiful for a long time, then you should definitely go down this road. It is all about the lifestyle habits and the little changes you make in your daily routine that can contribute to saving the Earth every single day.

We Only Live Once – Let’s Do It Right

We Only Live Once!

We are aware of the only constraint of life. Life is awarded but only once to all living beings. It is a beautiful gift but most of us let it pass without accomplishing certain important goals. Important goals, which are these? The life-goals are supposed to be defined by us to make our lives worth looking back.  The grandeur of life is not absorbed completely if we fail to fulfil these crucial objectives.

So, what’s the secret of living a perfect life?

It’s All About Time-Management, Honey!

When it comes to living life fully, the importance of time cannot be ignored.
I know I’m very bad at it but sincerely appreciate those who manage their time perfectly. It not only helps them complete the allocated tasks but also gives additional time to pursue their hobbies. Looks easy how some people finish their work well before the deadline and are ready to celebrate the victory, full of energy (yes, it is the most valuable victory).

For me, managing time is emerging as the most effective tool to lead an ideal life. As I continue to study the life patterns of the people around me, I find that the management of time plays a significant role in shaping our lives and achievements.

Try to figure out how to make the most of your stay on Earth!

Time-travel or Travelled by Time – Set your priorities right

Time-travel is the concept we are familiar with, through cinema and storybooks. Not yet accomplished but the continuous extensive studies, since the advent of mankind, strengthens the possibility of time-travel. Hopefully, we will be able to travel forward or backwards in time. I have read ‘The Time Travel’ by H.G.Wells (as everyone who’s reading this) and am pretty excited about the idea.

Well, my concept for time-travel is different for this article. A person who knows how to manage his time can play with it. Well, literally! He can transit smoothly from one age-group to another without showing any signs of jet lag. He ages and he ages gracefully.
Sounds crazy but this is actually true. A person who has mastered the art of controlling time can do much beyond the expectations of the others.

On the other hand, the person who is controlled by time, like many of us, is repeatedly run over by the shocks of time.  He is travelled by time.

We don’t get multiple chances as in video games. Make your only life spectacular!

This blog post is written in response to the prompts given by Pragun and Alpana. I chose to write on two Hindi songs from Bollywood movies. First is:

Aane Wala Pal jane Wala Hai,
Ho sake to ismein Zindagi bita do,
Pal yeh Jo Jane Wala Hai.

( Make the most of your time)

Your precious time on Earth has a limit. Plan, execute and celebrate the outcome. Do it in a way that when the end is near, you happily embrace it without regrets.

The second one is:

Zindagi ke Safar mein guzar jate Hain Jo makam,
Woh phir nahi aate,
Woh phir nahi aate.

(Time that’s gone is gone forever)

Each moment in life is significant. Unfold and unwrap to immerse yourself in the magic.
“Life is not in the past. Life is not in the future. Life is now.”

Games to keep Children Physically Active

(Children are not to be blamed, seniors set an example by spending their valuable time online connected to the illusory culture. Let’s go to the golden past to bring back popular games of that period)

We live in an era where technological excellence is rated above human intelligence. We are blindfolded by the magic of mechanical devices which promise to give pleasure when one is transported to the virtual world. Gone are the days when people used to believe in making social connections by meeting, chatting in person. Technological revolution and more than that, the social-media intrusion in our lives is degrading the way we interact. As a result, health concerns are rising; physical, mental and emotional health quotients are deteriorating.

Our children are the major sufferers. They have not seen the time when there was ample space to play outdoor games. There were no restrictions on play-time and ‘offline friends’ was the most important thing to cherish.

Am I getting too pessimistic? Well, life keeps on changing its pattern and living with technology is the demand of today. We know that health is the ultimate wealth. Make an effort to develop your children’s interest in outdoor activities as technological things will be attained easily:)

Games to keep Children Physically Active

Games to keep Children Physically Active

How to Develop Children’s Interest In Outdoor Games

โšฝ Restrict gadget time for children. Whether it is a video game, mobile phone or television; fix a maximum time for the passive activities. Reward them periodically if they succeed in adapting to the schedule.

โšฝ Play with your children. When parents show curiosity in outdoor games, children, too, have a chance to indulge in activities that improve physical fitness.
Alertโš ๏ธ- Parents may have to ditch their gadgets for the betterment of their children;)

โšฝ Shun dependency on online applications. Be an example for your children by doing calculations without any help from a calculator. I bet they will be motivated to do maths on their own.
Read books and encourage them to nurture reading habits. A healthy environment developed by you will be effective in the healthy growth of your children.

โšฝ Give your children ample time to play. It’s not wise to make them study all day when they are in their primary school only. The playtime should have a big chunk reserved for outdoor games. I recommend no compromise in this deal.

โšฝ Finding space for children to play is the biggest problem today. If you are buying a new home, be particular in getting one with a park or playground nearby. Encourage them to make real friends and start healthy communication. It’s our responsibility to let children play in the open space. Children are like tender plants who grow in healthy, open surroundings.

โšฝ Gift your children, the games that need physical activity and an open area to play. Physical activities facilitate healthy growth in children. Not only the body, their mind and emotional quotient will also show improvement, once the regular playtime is fixed.

PS- By keeping child active physically for an hour or two, you will improve his grades in studies:)

โšฝ Encourage kids to remain physically active from a very young age. Play with them the games that demand physical exercise. I recommend the traditional Cricket, Football, Tennis, Cycling, Skipping and Swimming for the development of children.

Participating in games that promote physical activity is beneficial in the following manner:

1) Physical Fitness is an important aspect of life and outdoor games are helpful in securing it.

2) Social Skills improve with children playing games that involve participation in groups.

3) Outdoor games boost creativity. Children learn to think beyond that is visible to the eye.

4) Children develop a positive outlook towards life that’s useful in improving mental health.

5) Playing outdoors with peer facilitates the personality development of children.

6) Children acquire an appreciation for nature while playing outdoor games.

7) Improvement in motor skills is noticeable when the size of playground increases from a small room to 50’x50′ ground.

8) You won’t deny, the is the happiness of children playing outdoors is beyond explanation:)

Organic foods โ€“ Important facts to know

Guest Post

In the late โ€™60s and โ€™70s, India was faced with a need to multiply its agricultural produce to sustain a rapidly growing population. The Green Revolution was the answer to Indiaโ€™s problems. The country started reaping rewards and the agricultural yield increased manifold.

๐Ÿƒ Use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and insecticides, despite yielding favourable results, pushed India far away from traditional farming practices.

๐Ÿƒ These chemical-laden food products started posing a major health concern for India. Also, soil degradation and depletion of natural minerals and bio-life were a serious worry.

๐Ÿƒ So, India made a shift, a shift in the right direction to organic farming. This is not new; this is, in fact, return to our origins.

What is Organic Food?

“Organic food is food grown through a system of farming that avoids the use of synthetic inputs (chemical fertilizers, pesticides, hormones, etc.) and using sustainable production methods such as crop rotation, animal manures, bio-fertilizers, beneficial microbes, organic wastes etc. so as to keep the soil alive and promote biodiversity.”

Benefits of Organic Farming/Foods

โ€ข Organic foods have more beneficial nutrients and antioxidants.

โ€ข People who have food allergies often find organic food palatable.

โ€ข Organic foods are fresher as they are often produced in farms closer to where it is sold.

โ€ข GMO-Free โ€“ they are not genetically modified or genetically engineered.

Organic Food Labelling โ€“ Role of FSSAI

People are cautious of buying organic foods as they are unsure if the product is indeed organic. Mis-labelling and fraud by Food Business Operators (FBO) can mark a product as organic when it is not genuinely so. Therefore, it becomes important to ensure that genuine labelling standards are being followed.
This is where FSSAI has a major role to play.

๐Ÿƒ The Food Safety and Standard Authority of India is an autonomous body under Health ministry and is the food standards regulatory authority in India.

๐Ÿƒ The FSSAI Food License ensures quality in manufacturing, packaging and the sale of food products in India. Any FBO involved in manufacturing, storing, distribution or sale of food is required to have FSSAI certification.

๐Ÿƒ The FSSAI regulated organic food through the Food Safety and Standard (Organic Foods) Regulations, 2017. The regulations mandate that the labelling on the packages should have accurate information about the organic status of the product.

๐Ÿƒ No FBO is permitted to manufacture, sell or distribute organic products unless they the stipulations laid by the regulations and comply with the standards laid by the certifying agencies.

๐ŸƒUnder this new regulation, two systems of certification are considered to have been recognized.

1) Participatory Guarantee System (PGS-India) – A single ingredient product meeting all objectives or a multi-ingredient product where 95% of the ingredients are organic are labelled as โ€˜PGS-Organicโ€™.

2) National Program for Organic Production (NPOP) – A single ingredient product meeting all objectives are labelled โ€˜Organicโ€™ and a multi-ingredient product where 95% of the ingredients are organic are labelled as โ€˜Certified-Organicโ€™.
๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸปAdditionally, the FSSAI regulation has also mandated that the Jaivik Bharat logo be incorporated in labelling organic products. This is the Governmentโ€™s assurance of a genuine organic product. Hence consumers who wish to buy organic products should look for the following on the package labels:

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Jaivik Bharat logo โ€“ Government assurance.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป FSSAI Food License number.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Either the NPOP Logo or the PGS-India logo whichever was certifying authority
Such measures can reduce fake labels and inappropriate markings on non-organic food products.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Further, the regulation also stipulates that the Organic products need to be displayed distinctive for other products.

FSSAI Licenses for Organic Products

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Any FBO that is already licensed with FSSAI and who wish to venture into organic products should have FSSAI certificates endorsed for organic products. FBOs who wish to start a new organic product business requires certification under the NPOP or PGS, a prerequisite for acquiring an FSSAI Food License. Any FBO not complying to the safety and labelling standards are liable for penalties under various sections of the Food Safety and Standards act.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸปWith increasing consumer awareness about health and increasing amount of pesticides in food products, more people are willing to procure organic foods. With Sikkim declared as an Organic state, the Government of India is taking all measures to boost organic farming in India and enforce clear labelling of organic products.

Take Off Your Travel Dreams With Brizo

(God made us inquisitive and we coined the term, travel agency)ย

I was wondering if travel has something to do with health and well-being. People who travel often seem to be happier than those who don’t/can’t travel. There has to be a connection between the two. Let’s discover:)

Humans are curious by nature. We crave to explore and indulge to acquire new experiences. Travelling gives a chance to recharge our seeking minds and I admit that we plan our travels more than we actually travel. It is sad but not all travel plans get materialised. There are justifications lying underneath several unfulfilled travel dreams.

I know that most of the time, the planning comes to a halt when we don’t find a reasonable travel plan satisfying our wishes as well as our pockets. You know, they have a solution to this problem too!ย

Search Google for a travel plan and a huge number of travel agencies will pop up in no time. Brizo Travel Deals is one such trusted agency that ensures your travel plan grows from dream to reality. There are a number of deals and discounts open to personalization.

I would like to draw your attention to the fact that travelling improves health. Yes, it is true that the overall physical and mental health improves for the person who travels. I’ve compiled a few points to strengthen my viewpoint.ย

Travel completes us.

7 Reasons why travelling is good for your health

1) A study shows that travelling actually increases the chances of living longer. A study showed that the people who take fewer vacations are more likely to suffer from stress-related ailments and die earlier than who take more than three weeks of vacation every year.
What are you thinking guys? Plan your much-delayed vacation now!:)

2) We know that walking is the best exercise. Travelling requires a lot of walking while surfing exciting new places.ย  As you can see,ย  the connection to health can be easily found:)
Travel, explore, walk and stay fit!

3) While travelling, we are exposed to different types of environments that helps in boosting the immune system. Moving from one place to another means exposing the body to various types of bacteria. The body, in turn, learns to fight and survive in numerous ways.

4) Stress level is low in people who travel and chill. We don’t need to find research records. It’s a matter of basic understanding that an activity like travelling relaxes the nerves to lower stress levels. This is another advantage of travelling that emphasizes its importance.

5) Brain health boosts with travelling. When we travel, we meet people from different regions and cultures. It makes us more open and accepting. As a result, our awareness, creativity and mental growth improve.ย

6) Research says that travelling decreases the risk of heart attacks! Yes, it is very much true. To travel, one takes a leave from the regular work that relieves him of everyday stress and anxiety.ย  The chances of developing heart disease are also reduced!

7)ย  Travellers are a happy clan. They are free from the pressure of mundane work. They explore new places and try to get accustomed to the culture of the specific locales. Acquiring knowledge while wandering in a foreign area brings a sense of achievement. Happiness prevails.

๐ŸžWe need to rediscover health through travelling. It is ‘Happiness that matters in the end’ and travel is one of the proven means to achieve it.
๐Ÿž Revive your travel plans and pack bags for a distant destination. Explore and experience romantic getaways.

Best Air Purifiers in India

Air pollution in India is breaking records and we are running out of clean air. Delhi and NCR (National Capital Region) cities are among the most polluted cities in the world. The records show that about 10,000 people a year may die prematurely in Delhi due to air pollution. If Delhi follows the air-quality standards set by WHO, its people will live for 8 years more.

Do we need air-purifiers at home?

โ˜˜๏ธ Air pollution in India is estimated to kill about 1.5 million people every year; it is the fifth-largest killer in India.

โ˜˜๏ธ Poor quality air irreversibly damages the lungs of 2.2 million or 50 percent of all children in Delhi.

โ˜˜๏ธ Burning of fossil fuels like petrol, coal and other combustible substances is the major cause of air pollution. Vehicles release hazardous gases but our dependence on the automobiles is dominating over health concerns. Silly of us.

๐Ÿ€ Agricultural activities like using insecticides, pesticides and fertilizers plus the burning of stubble spur crucial rise in air pollution.

13 out of the 25 most polluted cities of the world are in India. Authorities are finding it difficult to cope with the situation.
Children and old people suffer the most because of the weak lungs. Air-purifiers promise to decrease the acuteness of the problem at least indoors.

It is advisable to install good quality Air-purifiers at home to stay safe indoors when pollution is unbelievably high.

Stop Climate Change- Let’s do it together

When the powerful speech by a 16-year old, Greta Thunberg shook the ‘Climate Action Summit’, people around the world felt an acute need to reverse the climate change. It is not that we were unaware of the drastic transformations happening in our environment; often reminded by the authorities with time to time quickies. Small steps are taken by the administration, smaller responses are visible in the public and insignificant results are produced to fill the (un)necessary documents. The result is zero or negative. Negative, because climate change is happening at the rate much faster than the preventive steps taken by humans.

Coming back to Greta Thunberg. The young girl reminded us that what we are doing today is going to affect our future generations. They will reap what we are sowing now. Though the effects of climate change are quite prominent today, my brain crashes at the simple thought of its consequences after a few years. Our children won’t be able to survive in the harsh environment resulting in the end of the human race and the time does not seem to be far away.

๐Ÿ€ Climate change is occurring and human activities are the main cause. Long-term increase in the average temperature of the Earth’s climate is a major threat today and it is called Global Warming.

๐Ÿ€The terms ‘Climate change’ and ‘Global Warming’ are used interchangeably though Climate Change contains Global Warming as well as its effects.

๐Ÿ€The climate changes observed in the last 50-60 years have been much greater than those observed in the previous years including prehistoric times.

Evidence of Global Warming

1) Earth is heating up like never before and the results are apparent. NASA studied the behaviour of the earth’s atmosphere and observed that the level of CO2 has been increasing drastically since Industrial Revolution.

2) Most of the climate change before human existence was due to small variations in Earthโ€™s orbit that change the amount of solar energy our planet receives.

3) Industrial Revolution (since the mid-20th century) took climate change to another level that is set for irreversible harm to the Earth, as seen from the broader perspective. This change is significant because our home, the Earth is in danger.

4) Study shows that the current global warming is happening at the rate 10 times faster than the average ice-age recovery warming. This is alarming. Are we taking sufficient measures to slow down the upsetting change?

Find below the indications of global warming for more clarity:

๐Ÿƒ Human activities and hence the increase in CO2 has contributed to the rise in the temperature of the earth’s surface. The average surface temperature has risen by 0.9 degrees Celsius since the late 19th century. Last 35 years were the record-breaking hottest and 2016 was the year with most warm months till now.

๐Ÿƒ Oceans are warming too. Top 700 metres of the oceans are showing 0.4 degrees Fahrenheit since 1969. Oceans help to absorb Earth’s CO2. About 1/4th of the CO2 that we humans create is soaked by the oceans (because ocean plants breathe in CO2 and give O2). Since the temperature of the oceans is rising (remember, oceans form 97% of all water on the Earth), ocean animals are dying, putting a question mark to the ecosystem balance.

๐Ÿƒ NASA study shows that ice sheets in Antarctica and Greenland have been losing mass at an alarming rate. Billions of tons of ice is melting due to foolish human actions.

๐Ÿƒ Snowcaps of the world’s great mountains are disappearing. The Alps, Himalayas, Andes, Rockies, Alaska and mountains of Africa are some examples.
We may have to pay a huge price for the game we are playing with nature.

๐Ÿƒ Sea levels are rising and now you know the reason. It’s the melting of glaciers and snowcaps along with the warming of water that created the havoc.

๐Ÿƒ The increase in intense events like high temperatures, severe rainfall and other extreme weather conditions are ruining our peace of mind. The reason being the same – Global Warming!

๐Ÿƒ As more CO2 is released by the humans, more of it is absorbed by oceans. Oceans, that are generally basic in nature, are turning acidic due to the rising level of CO2. Warming oceans cause coral reef ecosystems.

What We Can Do!

We are slowly killing Earth, our habitat. High time, we must be ready with our action plan to save future for our next generations. The suggested actions are not difficult but it’s a matter of changing habits. Go back to the earlier days when the life of humans was simple. Adapt to a simpler lifestyle and make a positive impact on the environment.
We have a two-step strategy to reduce global warming:

1) Mitigation
2) Adaptation

By Mitigation, we mean that the intensity of global warming effects can be reduced by reducing the emissions of green-house gases to slow down the greenhouse effect.

There are some simple yet effective measures to make a difference:

* Increase the sinks (reservoirs) that absorb the harmful greenhouse gases, like oceans, forests and soil.

* Reduce the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat or transport.

* Eat the food you buy, and eat less meat.

* Buy better bulbs – LED lightbulbs use up to 80 percent less energy than conventional incandescents (they are also cheaper).

* Electricity in your home – this is one of the most harmful things we do to the environment. Don’t leave fully charged devices plugged into your home’s outlets, unplug rarely used devices or plug them into power strips and timers, and adjust your computers and monitors to automatically power down to the lowest power mode when not in use.

* When buying a new car, buy an electric car.

* RECYCLE – The average person makes 2.5 Kg of garbage a day! this means that in one year, you make 912.5 Kg of trash that gets thrown outside in our nature and harms our planet the most.

Our aim is to decrease the human interference with climate change so that the greenhouse gases level can be stabilized without threatening food production.

Adaptation means adjusting to changing climate conditions. History indicates that climate change has been the main cause of building and collapsing of civilisations. Try reversing the direction of change or adapt to the present/expected climatic conditions.

Mind your Body Mass Index- Highly Recommended!

My BMI rose to the overweight range (ouch!) taking my anxiety level to a newer height. I used to feel proud of my perfectly maintained weight but the recent BMI challenge put me in crisis. It was time to control my eating habits and regulate the exercise routine.

‘Body Mass Index’ also known as ‘BMI’ is crucial in keeping a track of body fat. Scientists define BMI as the ratio of the body mass and the square of the height. Taking mass in kilograms and height in metres, the units of Body Mass Index are kg/mยฒ.

Body Mass Index

We generally check our body weight and judge the health quotient by the same. In most cases, this scale fails. A short person (say 4 feet) and a tall person ( say 6 feet) both having the same weight can’t be considered healthy at the same time. Body Mass Index takes account of body weight with respect to the body height. Looking more credible, it gives the basic idea of our fitness. (P.S.- It may not be true in athletes, pregnant women, children or elderly people.)

BMI provides the relationship between body weight and height. It is considered more accurate than measuring body-weight alone. We have a simple calculation to measure Body Mass Index:

BMI= Body weight(kg)/ [Body height (m)]ยฒ

One can easily find if his/her body lies in the Underweight, Normal, Overweight or Obese range, by the above formula. Alternatively, you can find your BMI by simply filling your weight and height HERE.
A score of 18.5 to 24.9 is normal, 25 to 30 is overweight and 30-plus is obese.

BMI Chart

We can see that BMI is the measure of general health by finding the ratio of body weight and height. High BMI can put you at the risk of developing many diseases like:

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป High Blood Pressure

๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸปHeart Disease

๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸปHigh Cholesterol And Blood Lipids (LDL)

๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸปType 2 Diabetes

๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸปSleep disorders

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Female Infertility

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Gastroesophageal Reflux (GERD)

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Urinary Stress Incontinence

The importance of health cannot be ignored and BMI is the simplest way to calculate health quotient. Tracking weight is not applicable to a few people, everybody should keep the ratio of weight & height perfect so that complicated health conditions may not arise. What I discovered from the healthy living articles is that simple life adds to years of our life.

Don’t Underestimate the Power Of Brisk Walk

Walking has always been my convenient exercise. It imparts ample benefits to the people of all age-groups. One doesn’t need to bother about going to the gym or spending hours in the vicinity of machines. Walking is the best exercise, though yet to be declared officially;)
A few years back, I discovered the power of Brisk Walk. Not only did I feel more energetic, but the brisk walk routine also brought me back to shape in a shorter period. About 30 minutes of fast walking brings remarkable results and by the end of this article, you will agree with me.

Imagine a person is walking faster than the other people in a park. He is covering the same distance in 30 minutes, the others cover in 50 minutes. We want to know if he gets more benefit than those who walk at an average speed. I got the answer to my query and I’m sharing the same with you.

1) You can reduce your weight considerably by walking briskly without changing your lifestyle and it is scientifically proven. This is the coolest incentive as people can follow this relatively easier way to stay trim. Invest just 30-60 minutes a day walking faster than usual and get visible results.

2) You stay young and suffer from lesser psychological disturbances. Yes, it is again true. Walk in the fresh air to make the most of the walk schedule. Walking increases the rate of the exchange of gases (oxygen in, carbon dioxide out) and refreshes brain. And all of you are aware that it is brain that controls everything in our body.

3) The purpose of walk changes from merely reducing weight to getting fitter and smarter. You will look great in the new toned body as the benefits of brisk walk are not going to end here:p

4) While walking, you exert most of your muscles everyday. Your movements become smoother as the toning up of muscles is executed in routine. Overall health improves and the perspective of life changes too; for the better.

5) Overall health improves and your chances to live longer increase. Brisk walk, if managed in a proper manner shows magnificent outcomes. If you walk and are not getting visible results, increase your speed.

6) Better result in less time is the fundamental benefit of brisk walking. Take charge of your life and buckle up to win the race of health. Hardly 30-40 minutes a day are needed to become a health icon.

7) Not only the outer look, but your internal organs will also show improved fitness. Hearts of those people who walk or run are healthier than the others.

8) Scientists claim that brisk walk is healthier than running.

[ Running reduced the risk of heart disease by 4.5% while walking reduced it by 9.3%.

Calorie for calorie, walking also had a stronger impact on heart disease risk factors. The risk of first-time high blood pressure was reduced by 4.2% by running and 7.2% by walking.

First-time high cholesterol risk was lowered by 4.3% by running and 7% by walking.

The risk of first-time diabetes was reduced by about 12% by both walking and running.]

Walking is the best route to the healthy living. Be a little brisk in routine to make an impact on yourself and the society:)

I’m taking my blog to the next level with Blogchatter‘s #MyFriendAlexa

Not a coincidence that my travel buddies are going to the same place where I am supposed to go. We are from different backgrounds yet sitting beside each other for a previously planned journey.

Let me introduce you to my travel companions. First is James. A software specialist and a very good human thing, he can create magic with his brilliant skills. Second, Nina. She is the only woman on board. She is a Biologist, a scientist whose curious research mind guides us which direction to move to. Next, Tesla and Fernando. They were assembled by Doctor D to help us on this unpredictable journey. Doctor D? He’s not on board; has abundant work pending, back on Earth.

Who would have thought this?

Every morning when you open your eyes you find yourself to be a stranger to a strange new family and you are saying, โ€œI have to deactivate you. Iโ€™m sorry…โ€

My two lovely co-passengers! Tesla and Fernando. The two humanoids are working tirelessly for our space research program, unlike their human counterparts. We, the humans, need rest, feel hungry or find the urge to express our emotions. On the other hand, the two robotic bodies are displaying huge energy levels without ‘feeling’ the need to relax. As James calculates the possibilities to find life on a planet, ‘the two’ act as a catalyst to speed up the results. ‘The two’ have the power to find the result up to the trillionth degree of accuracy. Impossible for a human being. Nina uses them to see the future of species whose samples she gathers from a planet. ‘The two’ inspect, scan, analyse and give result in a very short period of time. They work without getting tired. At least, it had been my observation until they started showing signs of crankiness. In a fury of exhaustion, they would damage things around them and make things difficult for all of us. At that moment, I have no option but to deactivate them for a one time-cycle or maybe two. Considering the technical difficulties of our mission, all the members are equally important.

Our mission. NASA chose each one of us to accomplish certain tasks in the space, the idea of which we got during the final days of our extensive training. The scientists on the ground had discovered two new planets and wanted to know if there is any possibility of life on them. We, two humans, one cybrog (man-machine) and two humanoids, were chosen to be sent to the Space Center where the necessary equipment had already been placed. The journey in itself is full of possibilities and complexities.

Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. I’m a Cyborg. An antenna protrudes out of my head that can catch and send signals to the Earth and the satellites. Most efficient of all the modes of communication, I communicate with the NASA research centre with zero disturbance.

We come across many satellites and meteorites. We are on our quest for the vast spread of unknown information that humans can’t even explore in millions of years. The curiosity to know the unknown has made the voyages like this, possible.

‘The two’ giants have been deactivated by me for not following the spaceship standards. They need some time to come back to the normal. At the pilot’s seat, I can see huge objects circling around our ship. Usually, James is quick at calculating these risks, but today I’m the one who pointed out.

“What’s going on James? The big stones are the possible dangers to us!” I’m obviously curious.

“I spotted them a few minutes ago and trying to find an alternate path to move ahead.” It is James busy with the calculations, ” You should better bring these Titans to life”, he is pointing towards the robots.

“These things are coming closer, my efforts to connect with the earth station also failed”, I freak out while activating Tesla and Fernando.

“The asteroid belt is not anywhere near the spacecraft. What’s this?”

Hyper, I’m forgetting the lessons taught during pre-voyage training.

Tesla and Fernando have joined us back. The robotic mind calculates and gives the result in seconds.

:::::: Beeeep….. Life spotted.

:::::: Beeeep….. Life spotted.

James and I can’t stop looking at each other. What could be these unknown flying objects? Nina?

Nina, too, is astonishingly affected. Her brain is working fast to deliver an answer to our queries.

Beams of colourful light are hitting our spaceship. And, we are clueless.

“Connection with Earth station is restored, I have informed them the urgency we are facing, up in the space.” Me.

“We can’t deny the possibility of alien ships trying to overpower us!” Nina has a valid point.

Nothing near to what we all know, even James has no idea what is going on. Such situations can occur when you are exploring the unexplored region with knowledge pretty small as compared to the size of the displayed system. We are trapped in the abundance of limitless Space with a possible attack by aliens!

A passage opens in the wall of the cabin. The surprising thing is that it wasn’t there before. Shocks have just begun.

The species who are entering don’t resemble anything….at least I haven’t seen such slimy creatures in my lifetime. One of them seems to be the leader of the clan. On his orders, we are held hostages in our own ship. Tiny, power-punches of about five feet height, the strangers are now the new owners. Can’t count how many of them are here in the cabin but the number definitely exceeded my patience. Invisible radiations are controlling our actions and we can’t move our limbs.

A silent communication appears to be going on among our dominating ‘guests’. The only thing I can hear is the fine, musical notes. The leader sends notes and the others nod their heads. All five of us are reduced to mute spectators. The room is slowly filling with a kind of gas, a sweet gas. We are losing consciousness.

Ample time seems to have passed. My throat needs to be cleared before speaking. Looking around the cabin, I can see my companions lying on the floor. Not all of them. Where is James?

The atmosphere is filled with the traces of the sweet gas. Nina, Tesla, Fernando, all are here, but James!

“Let me connect to the Earth station and ask for guidance,” I assure Nina. The two giant robots are least bothered about what has happened to us.

“James is missing!” There are tears in Nina’s eyes.

“Earth station scientists confirmed that there was an intrusion by aliens. We are at the highest level of risk. Stay composed, Nina, we should plan and act smart, smarter than those aliens.” I am stronger than my usual self.

Many time units have passed.

One of our warriors is still missing. The officials from Earth are signalling us to wind up the process and prepare for the return journey. How can this be possible? Can we return to earth without James?

We want to continue the process but won’t be able to achieve much without James. Our buddy has been kidnapped by the aliens!

My antenna is giving an unusual signal since the beginning of the day. Nina and I have decided to return to the Earth. My contact with Earth mediators has been constant. While Nina is busy arranging samples and other bits of information, I’m programming for our departure. Tesla and Fernando are creating a nuisance, need to deactivate them for some time.

“Hey, guys! I’m back.”

I’m rubbing my eyes to believe. IT IS JAMES:)

“James is back, Nina, see, James is here:D” My happiness is beyond description.

As Nina is taking time to believe what she is seeing, I want to know where he has been. It might have been so many earth days. Our questioning faces are making things unbearable. James makes himself comfortable on a chair and starts.

“Those were aliens, tall, lanky and no doubt, brainy. I was taken to a huge hall where about twenty of them circled around me. A syringe-like object was inserted in my head and I lost my conscious. I don’t remember the exact time but seemed to be a few earth hours before I regained consciousness. They must have dropped me back on our spaceship. This is what I remember!”

Clearly a case of alien abduction. We are happy that James has returned but the fear of another attack by those foreign creatures can’t be denied. They are more powerful than us, their technology is more developed than ours and most importantly, it is their area.

We don’t have many options. The research has to be stopped before time to stay on the safer side.

I’m on my antenna-mode and in discussion with the Earth scientists. James and Nina are on computers. The two giant buddies are helping in removing trash from the ship. It’s almost done, only a signal from Earth would be enough to begin our back journey.

Suddenly, the room is filled with a mysterious gas. The sweet gas that hushed up our return journey. I’m losing my consciousness. The other moment I’m wide awake, encircled by the creepy fellows.

Need to Control What Children Are Watching

One of the most crucial issues today is that we are losing control over the content our children watch. When we were kids, it was easy for our parents to know what we were watching on television. There were limited gadgets, thanks to the technological revolution that spared our generation to some degree. We were happy reading comics, playing board-games and watching very limited television shows.

*Cut to the present day scenario.

Children are exposed to smart televisions, smarter-than-humans mobile phones and many other gadgets quite early in life. Last two decades have been a roller coaster ride with the accessible-technology. The curiosity of human mind brought wonders in our lives and we are sincerely grateful for this. Nothing comes for free and a spike in the technology made everything easily available. Trouble began when psychological disturbances began to ruin our peaceful environment.

As technology was developing, devils like rude behaviour, violence, sexual abuse etc started eating up the goodness of mankind. Reasons could be anything but the striking one seems to be the uncontrolled access to information.

Need to Control What Children Are Watching

Control What Children Are Watching

Problems were there in the past.
Problems are here in the present.
Only the kind and intensity vary.

Children who have delicate brains are the most affected by the crude spread of knowledge. They are given access to the communication devices right after their birth. Pictures are clicked and shared to get likes. The television, the mobile phone, the iPad, the PC, the gaming gadgets; all fantasy things make a significant space in the child’s brain.

Can you mention the culprits that are slowly infecting the young minds?

The new generation is showing traits that were unthinkable in the past. Who would have thought to struggle to save children from these peculiarities ๐Ÿ‘‰

1. Signs of Violence
2. Signs of Intolerance
3. Inclination to Racism
4. Lack of concentration
5. Lack of respect for elders
6. Increase in stress level
7. Interest in passive entertainment
8. Less involvement in family issues
9. Bad health symptoms
10. Sexual abuse

The situation is going out of control. By giving freedom to our children to watch anything, we are literally deteriorating the moral quality of our family and more importantly, our society.

What can we do now?

๐Ÿž First of all, accept it as a mistake. Providing everything to young children is not affection or care. I know you can afford but catering to the child’s appetite is also essential. Just as you don’t give excess food to the child to prevent physical illness, put control on the material he watches.

๐Ÿž There is no need to introduce the child to flashy gadgets only because you can afford to. Child’s brain is too sensitive to handle the elements, the gadgets display.

๐Ÿž We have access to the parental locks and age-appropriate content. Take some time to regulate the shows watched by your children. It’s good for their development.

๐Ÿž You can limit the time, your child spends with gadgets. TV, mobile phones, gaming devices and other equipment distract the delicate minds of kids and makes them passive in learning.

๐Ÿž Don’t use television as a baby-sitter. As a responsible parent, it’s your duty to raise the child in a good environment. Read him books, play with him or take him to the playground. You can not be a stimulus to spoil your child’s life.

10 Benefits of Eating Local Food

Eating local food is believed to be healthier, tastier and more nutritious than the food transported from distant places. During my supermarket visits, I’m tempted to buy colourful vegetables and fruits that are not grown locally. Everybody wants a change and such food items look bright and inviting; as if saying, ” Come, pick me up!”;)

It’s okay to have these fruits and vegetables once in a while but local food is the best for everyday consumption.

Benefits Of Eating Local Food

They have committees, researchers, proven results to show that local food is better than the food imported from distant places.

What exactly is Local Food?

Local Food is the food that’s grown, manufactured or produced within a 100-mile radius of the consumerโ€™s home. People who choose locally produced food for consumption are called Locavores. The popular ‘100-mile diet‘ has the same basis; that is buying and eating food that’s produced withing 100-mile radius of one’s place.

Here are some benefits listed to get an idea of how effective local food can be!

1) Fresh and Nutritious

Food grown around the place you live is of superior quality and undoubtedly, fresh. I mean, the chances of getting good quality food produced near home are better than the food from distant places. This home-food is likely to be more nutritious than that imported.
Prefer buying local produce and stay healthy.

โญโญโญFood such as broccoli, green beans, kale, red peppers, tomatoes, apricots and peaches are susceptible to nutrient loss when harvested and transported from longer distances, while those that are heartier such as apples, oranges, grapefruit and carrots keep their nutrients even if they travel long distances.

2) Good For Environment

You cut down on carbon footprints by purchasing local goods. Locally produced food doesn’t have to travel thousands of kilometres to reach you. More fuel means more pollution that increases unhealthy gases in the environment. Simply eat local to minimize the extent of dangers we are facing today.

3) Supports Local Farmers

By eating locally grown food, we are indirectly supporting local farmers. It means prosperity and happiness will prevail around you. With more demand, farms will be updated with the latest technology to handle the supply.

4) Supports Local Economy

As local farms flourish because of the better market, the economy is bound to expand.
Money spent in the local market stays in the local market resulting in booming the economy.

5) Less Wastage of Food

Since distance travelled by food is small, less food is wasted in distribution, warehousing and merchandising. Spoilage is limited and can be controlled.
This way, you are helping humanity by saving food. At the same time, the good quality of the food can be assured.

6) Taste Better, New Flavours

Now that you have limited yourself to eat local food, explore new flavours that are waiting to surprise you. Good, nutritious food is found near you and you are searching for it around the world.
Discover the new foods you’ve never tasted. Yes, you’ll find it in tune with nature.

7) Encourages Sustainable Agriculture

Sticking to the Local food implies encouraging sustainable agriculture, and facilitating tracking the supply chain back to the point of origin to evaluate ecological practices. This enhances economic growth, environmental protection and social health.

8) Less Travelling

This is another benefit of eating local. Easily available local food can be obtained from local markets easily with the guarantee of freshness and purity. Products from far off places are brought by some means of transportation with a little assurance of freshness and purity.

9) Good for Soil

When people start buying more local produce, farmers will grow diverse crops making the soil more fertile. When the same crop is grown over a large area for a long duration of time, the quality of soil deteriorates.

10) Connected Communities

Giving importance to local produce can boost community interactions, thereby connecting people through market transactions.
Such markets are buzzing hubs of a community. People interact on a regular basis and stronger bonds are developed.

Local Food takes lesser time to reach your plate from the farm, it’s healthier and tastier. Instead of hitting the supermarket, visit the local market to buy local fruits, vegetables and other products. Support and promote your neighbourhood. A definite route to celebrating health and safety!

Keto Diet- To Follow or Not to Follow

Keto Diet is the latest trend among today’s health-conscious people. However, I’m yet to decide on implementing the K-diet regulations. Fascinated by the extent of the craze, I made up my mind to search for the pros and cons of the Keto Diet and write on the same.

๐Ÿ’ฎ”Wow! What a transformation!”
I was surprised to see my friend after six months. The change was apparently so obvious that I couldn’t help giving her the compliment. I remember her as an average overweight girl with no visible intentions to lose weight.
“How?” I could hardly mumble just one word in the hope to get an answer to the transition.
“I’m following keto diet:)”, she ready with the answer.

Again, it’s Keto Diet!

I look at myself. Lifestyle mistakes have taken a toll on my body. I should lose at least 5-7 kg of weight to stay healthy and look presentable. My desire to go back to the original size is reinforced by the keto-diet mania. There’s no excuse left to start searching for the exact meaning of the Keto Diet.

What is Keto Diet

๐Ÿต In keto diet, carbohydrate intake is drastically restricted and it is replaced by good quality fats and proteins. Low-carb food can also be included but in a very small quantity. The diet comprises of meats, eggs, sausages, cheeses, fish, nuts, butter, oils, seeds, and fibrous vegetables. The exact intake of carbohydrates is 20-50 grams per day that is very low.

๐Ÿต Standard ketogenic diet (SKD) comprises of 75% fats, 20% proteins and only 5% carbohydrates. The diet changes the metabolism of the human body drastically and hence should be followed for a limited period.

๐Ÿต It is based on the theory that a low-carb diet decreases carbohydrates in the body and increases the fats. Instead of carbohydrates, the body uses fats and convert them into energy.
Fat molecules are changed to the new kind of molecules called ‘ketones’ that supply energy to the brain. The process is known as ‘Ketosis’ and the diet followed to make it happen is called Keto Diet.

Benefits of Keto Diet

๐Ÿ’ฎ Keto Diet is followed for a limited period under the observation of the experts. When followed with precision, the diet can do wonders for your body.

๐Ÿ’ฎ Follow Keto Diet to lose weight.

After following Keto Diet for some days, our brain will become accustomed to burning fats to get energy; the energy used to carry out body functions.
It is seen that people lose their weight in a few days of keto-therapy. The weight loss is twice or thrice the weight lost by other methods.

๐Ÿ’ฎ Keto Diet reduces body insulin levels. Blood sugar drops significantly after 4-16 weeks into keto-diet therapy. When on an extremely low-carb diet, the body releases fatty acids that’s used as energy. This, the fats stored in our bodies are used up in simple metabolic functions.

๐Ÿ’ฎ Keto Diet is known to prevent and even cure cancer in many cases. The diet causes more oxidation of cancer cells than of the normal cells. Reduction of insulin is also related to the prevention of some cancers.

๐Ÿ’ฎ Improves heart health:
By following Keto Diet strictly, the health of the heart improves. A study shows that this particular diet increases the HDL ( Good Cholesterol level) significantly and decreases the level of bad cholesterol (LDL).

๐Ÿ’ฎ Improves brain functioning
Keto Diet improves functioning of the brain. It is observed that children show improvement in memory, when on Keto Diet. Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases are also controlled by prescribing Keto therapy to the patients.

Side Effects of Keto Diet

There are some side-effects of keto diet and these must be taken into consideration before following the strict diet plan.

1) Constipation

Bowel habits change due to the drastic change in the diet plan. One can suffer from acute constipation and other bowel irregularities.

* Increase your fibre and water intake.

2) Lack of energy, Leg cramps, Keto Flu can make you feel dizzy and reduce your capacity to do work.

3) Though Keto Diet is known to decrease sugar levels considerably, you should not change the regular diet with Keto without asking your doctor. A serious medical condition, ‘Ketoacidosis‘ can put you in danger.

Health is the Ultimate Wealth

People across the world spend a huge chunk of their income on health-related issues. Most of them are not interested in taking precautions for good health but are ready to jump on each remedy they discover after catching diseases. We come across many new ailments in our lifetime and the number keeps on increasing with each passing day. Scary as it sounds, I think it’s advisable to become health-educated than to spend and repent later. Healthy individual leads a happy, content life and handles stress better than others. There are many misconceptions about the idea of health. Most of us have the opinion that health is exclusively physical fitness. The problem begins here.

WHO defined health as “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”

We infer from this definition that physical fitness is important but mental health and social behaviour also affect our well-being to a great extent. The infographics shown below gives suggestions to stay physically fit. These are really good tips for a healthy lifestyle. Add to it the flavour of social and mental health. These are the support pillars that boost our physical fitness to exist longer and brimming with joy.

The concept of health has been changed in the last few years. Experts give as much importance to mental condition and social behaviour as to physical fitness. There’s a revolution in the healthcare system where new ideas are changing the world for the better. Need is to spread the word about the significance of mental and social abilities.

๐ŸžSo, what defines a healthy person?
Every generation is different from the preceding one and the big change we observe in our generation is the increased mental stress and troubled social behaviour. These conditions might have not troubled our predecessors to this extent. The need to draw boundaries for social and mental health didn’t exist to such a considerable degree; hence the definition of health was limited to physical well-being.

Let’s define Health

๐Ÿž Health has a vast meaning including physical, mental and social soundness. A person with all these abilities is considered a healthy human. See, it’s time that has changed the concept of health and we don’t know if this definition stands true in the coming years.

๐Ÿž Not falling ill is healthy. Equally important is the speed of recovering from the illness. Diseases strike all but the magnitude of impact differs from individual to individual. A healthy person has good immunity that helps him to bounce back to normal life after falling sick.

๐Ÿž Health acts as an everyday resource for us to lead a great life. Work on it and wake up every day to happy and optimistic energy. Save your health.

๐Ÿž What are the factors that influence our health?

– lifestyle

– The physical environment

– The social and economic environment

– The person’s individual characteristics and behaviour

– Genetics

– Gender

๐Ÿž There are so many aspects of health that we can’t blame a person for having bad health or praise another for having good health. Some of these factors are beyond the control of a person. We can’t do much about the social and economic conditions. It’s not in our control to be born in a healthy or rich family; our social and financial structure depends on it. Gender, male or female suffers from different diseases; we can’t control.

๐Ÿž Numerous factors deciding our health and many of them can’t be regulated by us. But, there are still many, we can manage wisely for a better lifestyle. Our happiness largely depends on our health. A healthy person lives life fully and is a valuable asset to society.

Adopt a Healthy Lifestyle

๐Ÿต Eat nutritious food and minimise white sugar, white flour, oil-ghee-butter, alcohol, stale, processed, packaged food. Take every step to improve your food intake. Before putting anything in the mouth, realize that it is going to decide your tomorrow.

๐Ÿต Exercise faithfully. Be it running, yoga, gym or some kind of sport; put your efforts to get supreme benefits.

๐Ÿต Don’t miss your prescribed water intake.
It keeps the body functioning smoothly. Setting up a reminder to drink water after regular intervals does work.

๐Ÿต When in stress, try to reach out for solutions. There’s nothing that can be solved with careful planning and good support. Discuss your condition with near ones, your family or friends.

๐Ÿต Socialise. Interact with the people around you. You are one of them. They too face problems and interaction will give you a peek into how they manage their crisis.

Remember, health is the ultimate wealth.

OH YES, I Love Bollywood Gossip!

Bollywood gossip is one of those few things I survive on. What are the chances of this Bollywood actress marrying that cricketer? Which celebrity was seen going out on a date with some ‘unknown’ person? My curious sense tracks the news and hunts down interesting outcomes. It’s not just me, more than half the population of India is in love with Bollywood gossip and they are proud to confess.

I’m amazed to see how these Bollywood actors manage to keep their lives delightfully happening. When I say that I go through the news regularly, it means that my Page-3 information is up to date;)

Alia Bhatt Rejected Aamir Khan’s Movie

The latest in the kitty is that Alia Bhatt might have rejected Aamir Khanโ€™s movie, OSHO because she was committed to Salman Khanโ€™s INSHALLAH. Alia was to play Ma Anand Sheela in Osho biopic where Aamir is supposed to play the spiritual Guru Rajneesh Osho.

*Alia didn’t want to miss out on working with Salman and her favourite director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and said no to all the other projects that were offered to her. But luck had something else in store for these actors. Sanjay Leela Bhansali shelved the film ‘Inshallah’ because of the creative differences with Salman Khan.

*The film Inshallah would have been the most anticipated Bollywood collaboration as Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Salman Khan had decided to work together after almost twenty years. Their last joint venture was ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ in 1999.

*Sanjay Leela Bhansali is the director who respects his actors and considers their suggestions but up to some extent. One of the best directors of our film industry, Bhansali doesn’t entertain any interference with his creative concepts. The limit might have been crossed by the actor Salman Khan and Bhansali dumped his ambitious venture. Ouch! Think about Alia guys! She had reserved all her dates for Inshallah. Other projects were refused because she wanted to focus on this ambitious film. Now, what’s the plight of Bollywood’s favourite girl, Alia? She is certainly upset over the unexpected unfolding of the incidents.

*Meanwhile, Salman Khan has tweeted that Sanjay Leela Bhansali film has been postponed but he would come up with another one this Eid. A great way to stay true to his ritual of releasing a film on every Eid.

*Another tweet from Salman’s handle clued that he will not disappoint his fans and present a big release this Eid though not Inshallah.

Ahem. Ahem.

*If speculations are to be believed, the Salman-movie to be released this Eid is Kick-2. Fans, who wait for their favourite superstar’s movie every year during festival season, are excited by the news.

**Another rumour ruling social media is that the mother of a Bollywood actress is fighting with her daughter’s husband over the latter’s property. The authenticity of the gossip that’s spreading like a fire can’t be denied and I’m working on it. Click to know who the family is and why the fight is brewing among its members.

7 Things to know before buying a DSLR

Owning a DSLR is the favourite dream of many. You may be one of them. You scroll through the infinite buying options and get confused, postpone the idea and preserve your dream for the next opportunity. Today I’m here to help you come out of the postponing-mode by sharing some tips to buy a DSLR camera. I’ll discuss everything from features of a DSLR to the best๐Ÿ‘‰ DSLR๐Ÿ‘ˆdeals in the market. Keep reading!

1) Passion For Photography

I know your friends boast about their newly acquired DSLRs. They are considered more tech-forward, more fashionable than you. Oh! Is this the only reason to buy the gadget! Stay sane man!!

Ask yourself. Are you buying the DSLR camera because you have a passion for photography or is it just following the crowd blindly? Own the amazing DSLR camera if you can’t do without it. Otherwise, there’s no use keeping the high-utility gadget in the cupboard.

2) Kind Of Photography You Do

Before purchasing a DSLR, the purpose should be clear in your mind. You are clicking pictures of family and want a low-end DSLR. You are a professional photographer and want a high-end camera to cater to the needs of your clients. You are a wildlife photographer who wants his pictures perfectly natural, aims to get the best one available. Find out your category and choose the camera wisely.

Top brands have various options in Digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) cameras for all purposes. Make sure to check the features before making payment.

3) How DSLR differs from Ordinary Digital Camera

By now you are certain that the camera you want has to be a DSLR.
People are crazy for DSLR cameras in spite of its higher price range. Those who have used both the cameras know that the DSLR picture quality is far superior to that of the other cameras. The speed of clicking and saving images is higher. The best part is that we have plenty of photographic options available in DSLR. You can blur objects or adjust the depth of the pictures.

4) Interchangeable lenses

Most of the DSLR cameras have the option of changing the lens. You can keep different lenses ready for various shooting needs. Interchangeable Zoom lenses are the most popular. Special purpose lenses are used for special purposes and are not used by all. For example, Fisheye lenses are used to take a 180-degree view.

5) Automatic Focus and Image Stabilization

DSLR cameras come with autofocus option. A number of autofocus modes are available depending on the model. Though the camera focuses on the object in the centre of the frame, many DSLRs allow changing the focus point. In that case, a switch is provided to move between Manual Focus and Autofocus (M/A).

If the ordinary camera is not held steady, the image blurs. This error is reduced in the DSLR with the Image Stabilisation technique. There are two types of Image Stabilizations:
* In-body Image Stabilization-
Image sensor is moved to counteract the sensed motion of the camera. It works for all lenses mounted on DSLR.

* In-lens Image Stabilization-
It is implemented in the lens itself to counteract the sensed motion of the camera. You will have to buy Image Stabilization lens separately.

6) Maintenance of a DSLR

After acquiring the brand new DSLR camera, you should be concerned about its maintenance.
Keep your camera and lenses clean and enhance the life of the gear. Unwanted things like dirt, dust, smoke or humidity can hinder the performance of the camera. Watch this video to know how to clean the gear with perfection. Get a basic cleaning kit and be regular in removing harmful substances from the DSLR.
Don’t miss the camera bag to carry your precious possession. Now you are ready to go creative with your DSLR.

7) Watch Out For Crazy Deals

When you make up your mind to buy a DSLR, it is advisable to keep an eye on the Discount-Days and Crazy Deals. The sales are irresistible and your pocket is going to love buck-saving deals. Everyone likes to save some money and I believe you are not an exception:D

Why do I Need me-time

Busy as we all are in our vicious circle of life, it becomes difficult to find time for ourselves. Sounds crazy but do you steal a few minutes from your busy schedule to take a nap during the day? I can’t remember the last time I indulged in dancing alone, once used to be my favourite pastime. We have some passions to follow and thus weave a web of work around them. In the process of chasing the dreams, we forget to add me-time to the routine.

Me-time! What’s that?

Search Google and you find the definition of Me-time as “time spent relaxing on one’s own as opposed to working or doing things for others, seen as an opportunity to reduce stress or restore energy”. One needs to replenish energy to get up and work again with enthusiasm. For some people, it’s not easy to accept but truth is that our efficiency depends on Me-time. When we take time out of our busy routine to make ourselves comfortable, health as well as creativity improve.

I actually experience the same. When there’s a lot of work to do, I switch on my audio system and relax for a while. It is not that I shy away from doing the job. A few precious solitary moments recharge me and I’m refreshed to face the big challenge. I think all of you must be having the same feeling. Extract some time from twenty-four hours and spend on yourself, if you are not doing it now.

Importance of Me-time

Let’s decode the need for me-time. There’s so much stress in today’s life that we don’t get time to unwind. As a result, the stress piles up to present a horrible picture. We become tired, less interested in work and bored with our surroundings.
Time spent on yourself is not selfish. If you care to do your work sincerely, me-time is essential. It acts as a catalyst for better and faster results. While doing the routine work we are mechanically guided. Usually, no importance is given to happiness and self-satisfaction. It is me-time that can bring happiness to your routine work.
Me-time is no wastage of time; it increases efficiency thereby reducing the time required to do the job.

How to have Me-time?

There’s no hard and fast criterion to spend me-time. It varies from person to person. Find out what relaxes you. For one person music can do magic while for the other it is unwanted noise. Make sure you spend your time doing what your heart says and not to please someone else. For me the following things work:

๐Ÿž Deep breathing and Meditation

When I’m fed up with the routine and want to de-stress myself, deep breathing saves me. Deep-breathing cleanses our lungs by easing oxygen-carbon dioxide exchange. It also stabilises blood pressure and reduces stress. Works best if you quickly want to go back to the routine, fully energised.

๐Ÿž Listening to Music

Music is not just entertainment, it soothes our minds. Music has the power to reduce anxiety and depression. My me-time includes music of my taste:D
Yes, not any kind of music helps relieve your anxiety. Say, if you play your pop music for your grandmother who doesn’t like it, her stress-level is going to shoot up;)

Ask her how she likes to spend her me-time:)

๐Ÿž Taking a Nap

A short nap is my favourite me-time. It relieves me from undesirable stress and naturally induces deep breaths. If you have sufficient time, a short nap can be increased to 2-3 hour sleep. When tired and impatient, I choose to go to bed, for a short nap. It’s good for me and people around me;)

๐Ÿž Calling a friend

Whether you are tired or irritated, or in doubt, call a close friend. It’s an effective remedy for setting everything right. A hearty chat decreases stress level to boost the mood.
Make sure the chat sessions don’t go beyond the time allotted to your me-time;)

๐Ÿž Watching a Movie alone

You will have to make an extra effort to watch a movie alone. Movies, because they provide wholesome entertainment.
Alone, so that you can enjoy every bit without interference. Grab popcorn and cola, home-theatre or cinema hall, watch your favourite show at your favourite time:)

๐Ÿž Creative Writing

In me-time, I write for myself. It doesn’t include replying to emails or messages. It can be a poem, silly or sensible, depending on my mood; a short story or just scribbles evolving from my free mind. Believe me, the words I write with a relaxed mind are the most loved by me.

This blog is a part of the #WeeklyBlogHop hosted by Alpana http://www.mothersgurukul.comand Neha Sharma I would like to thank Pragnya of for introducing me to this blog hop and would further like to introduce Kushal of to share her take on the prompt.

Indian Education Needs An Overhaul

I am convinced that books are the ultimate source of information. It is because of books that we come to know about the nuances of the worlds around us. There’s a world of science that teaches us to distinguish between different textures. There’s a world of art that makes our senses react. We gather information to learn how to respond to a particular situation. Individual differences may change the response but basic reactions are almost the same. Books and other sources of information add to our knowledge. We keep piling up this knowledge and believe that we have learnt all. Here lies my question, an extension to my article on ‘Where India Lagged‘.

Rote Learning – Not a Solution

School education, especially in India, stresses on gaining knowledge by memorising loads of books. There’s a little difference between learning and memorizing if you ask our schools. Students are aware that their grades are completely dependent on how good their memorizing power is. Sad. A bright student who doesn’t believe in rote learning has to accept poor grades. On the other hand, an average student with excellent rote power excels in academics. Irony. As a result of the faulty education system, students passed out of the schools with flying colours do not know how to operate simple apparatus like Vernier Callipers and Screw Gauge! When these students enter institutions for higher education, their grasping power further slows down. Result?
Most of the times, Indian students can’t compete with students from Western countries.

Vicious Cycle Of Mediocrity

Knowledge without practical application fails at one point or the other. We should be prepared to put our knowledge into action. Without action, our knowledge is meaningless. I read somewhere that India has to cater to the education of millions of people. The country tries to impart basic information (read bookish) to most of the people. Not a very rich country as India is, it can’t provide practical experience to everyone that comes with the unavoidable expenditure. If this is the severity of the situation, we will never be able to come out of the vicious cycle of mediocrity.

Where’s the Respect for the Skilled

After Independence, in the process of developing, Indians lost respect for skilled people. People who work with hands are considered inferior to those who read and write. Shocking but true. You will be surprised to know that we prepare lakhs of engineers every year. Many of them, about 80-90% change their stream after graduation. Why?
Our engineering graduates are well-read people with little practical knowledge. The reason being the same; our grades largely depend on theoretical knowledge. Practical experience is required but only a formal certificate is enough to satisfy the authorities or the companies that hire them. After all, this is India.
These incomplete proofs of experience fall flat when our students get a chance to compete with the students of top foreign universities. Failure in the education system leads to many failed lives. Pause.

Analysing Application of Knowledge

๐ŸžWe are aware that acquiring knowledge is quite necessary for us. We can’t survive the life-game if we lack knowledge. Another question pops up.
Is the application of knowledge as important as knowledge? When we talk about skill-based training, it can’t be provided in confined places. Say, nobody can teach ‘how to swim’ within four walls of a classroom. Same is the case with many more things.

๐Ÿž Heard somewhere that a person with a lot of knowledge but no practical experience is like a library whose doors are closed. Convinced! The application complements the knowledge and strengthens the concepts learnt. Moreover, the interest in the subject increases once we are clear about the practical aspects.

๐Ÿž By practising what we gain as knowledge, we move towards perfection. It is true that the human brain always works for perfect results. One gets better results by bringing knowledge to practice. It boosts confidence as well as raises happiness level.

We strive to bring happiness in our lives and this is going to be one impeccable effort:)
