The Spirit Behind Women’s Day
Scrolling down the pages of Wikipedia I wondered what’s the idea behind Women’s Day? They don’t celebrate Men’s Day anyway! What led to the need to celebrate a day dedicated to women? The difference of authority between the two genders is obvious and the history gave another dimension to my thoughts.
Years of oppression and restricted rights, women stood up against the monopoly of men in society. Being fairer sex and emotionally weak, the woman had always been the soft target. An effort to fight for the rights, Women’s Day was first observed in New York on February 28, 1909. Initially, the day was a kind of strike from the routine household work and demanding equality in wages. Slowly, Women’s Day was accepted around the world as a tribute to women who play an important role in one’s life. Today we celebrate the day as the financial and social freedom of women. Women today are more independent and are able to challenge any injustice done to them. The #metoo campaign is one such example where women raised their voice to be heard loudly.
Coming back to celebrating the day dedicated to women. The campaign that started as a struggle to get equal rights is transformed into marketing extravaganza. Women have come a long way since then. They have achieved success and on Women’s Day, get a chance to splurge and pamper themselves. No doubt, there’s a huge relief from dreadful past yet a lot more is still to be done. The fight for rights must go on; keep the flame burning.
One lesson that we learn from the past is that women should have the courage and balanced state of mind to struggle for their rights. We infer that a healthy woman with financial independence takes bold initiatives confidently.
From my experience, I’m sharing a few important points for women to lead a graceful life:)
1) Take Care Of Your Health
‘A healthy mind resides in a healthy body’. Usually, women give importance to this proverb as long as their family is concerned. Knowingly or unknowingly, they ignore their own health. In the process of caring and loving family, the lady of the house neglects her well-being and here begins the problem.
🐟 It’s better to look after your health than to repent later. As Buddha said,
“To keep the body in good health is a duty otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear.”
Eat Healthy, Exercise And Stay Positive.
Meditation enables us to connect with our inner self and improves physical and mental health. Take out a few minutes every day to meditate and conquer your thoughts. Your anxiety will take a leave giving way to improved multitasking skills.
Thich Nhat Hanh said,
“Feelings come and go like clouds in a windy sky. Conscious breathing is my anchor.”
3) Talk to self
Devote meaningful time listening to what your heart says. Keep it happy as you work on your intellect. A balanced proportion between heart and mind will take you far.
4) Chalk Out Your Future Plans
Clarity about your goal can help you plan your actions. Decide about your life goal and weave an action network around it. Once found the purpose of life, your outlook towards life will become adventurous.
5) Financial Independence
Today a woman is as free as a man. She wants to fulfil her ambitions like her male counterpart. Financial Independence is a catalyst to her dreams. Earn. Earn but not at the cost of compromising your femininity. A woman is complete when she lives the role of a mother, wife, daughter and sister in true essence.
6) Celebrate Your Individuality
Be what you are and not a copy of somebody else. It feels good to carry the character of your favourite model but that is not you. Instead, find your follies, work on them and measure the improvement everyday.
Bring out the best in you.
Be The Best You!
7) Keep Positive Energy Flowing
Stay away from inviting negative thoughts to your mind. Your body is like glass, it absorbs and to some extent, reflects what it receives. Smile even if your life is passing through the worst phase. Accept yourself as you are and learn to forgive and forget.
