The never-ending debate on sharing the household chores has started taking a shape in the crucial COVID times. Whoa! Ariel campaign for #ShareTheLoad is delivering visible results.
I have a strong opinion about #ShareTheLoad campaign because the men in my family are showing signs of evolution! We were a month into the lockdown and one day the elder boy woke up a bit earlier than usual. Well, obviously not to see what I was doing but he had to attend an online coaching class. Though his intention was to go back to bed, by chance, he stumbled on my routine activities. He was literally surprised to see me finishing household tasks of cleaning, cooking and laundry at the speed of light.

“Mom, you do all these things on your own?”

“Nothing special son, it’s my job. The quarantine period just expanded the diversity of chores.”
I smilingly asked him for breakfast.

“Mom, who decided on the division of household chores? I mean, men can also contribute to the chores, at least the laundry!“
.
I was stunned by his response. The Ariel  #ShareTheLoad video played before my eyes once again.

“That’s what I want to say!” My repressed soul wanted to cry at the highest pitch. “In many countries, it’s a tradition that women handle most of the household work and there’s no provision to #ShareTheLoad by the male members of the family. Today, women can manage multiple tasks but men fail on the home-front terribly.“

“Son, it’s up to you to take the initiative of helping mom in the household chores. Our tradition has no provision of such incentives for women. Be the change you want to see in society.” Listening, he looked at me with broad eyes.

“Mom, I’ll help you in finishing the chores so that you can also enjoy television series in the afternoon.” My son hugged me and I felt liberated.

From that day, I am actually assisted in laundry and other household tasks by my children. Their father, my hubby, manages to build a favourable atmosphere and helps in sorting the clothes for laundry.
My responsibility is shared by my family and needless to say that our bond is strengthening day by day:)
