Keeping in mind the popularity of stand-up comedies, ZEE5 has come up with a new release this month- Comedy Couple. It is about two stand-up comedians who are luckily a couple, professionally and emotionally tied. The ups and downs in their partnership bring about a series of events that conceptualized this rom-com. The trailer of Comedy Couple captured my attention and I felt like sharing my eagerness to watch the ZEE5 Original. One of the major reasons for my interest is the star cast of ‘Comedy Couple’. ZEE5 has roped in amazing actors like Saqib Saleem, Shweta Basu, Pooja Batra, Aadar Malik, and Rajesh Tailang for the movie. 

The lead pair is played by Saqib Saleem (famous for Rangbaaz, Dil Junglee) and Shweta Basu Prasad (remembered for Shukranu, The Tashkent Files).  Comedy Couple is a com-rom based in Gurgaon and is set against the backdrop of the growing stand-up comedy scene in the city. However, whatever little we know about the movie is a hint from the trailer and the verbal communication of the actors.

Saqib Saleem who has worked with ZEE5 before says, “I am quite excited, not just for this film, but also the fact that we are the first web feature film to start shooting during the lockdown! I couldn’t be happier to work with ZEE5 again. Rangbaaz was a fantastic experience for me and I am looking forward to ‘Comedy Couple’ now.”

He further adds, “This genre is something I have always enjoyed, some of my films have been in this space too. It may seem easy, but doing comedy requires a ton of hard work. Can’t wait to start shooting with my co-star Shweta Basu Prasad and the talented crew. Brace yourselves, I am going to be cracking a lot of jokes!”

The leading lady of ‘Comedy Couple’ Shweta Basu Prasad says, “I am super excited to be a part of ‘Comedy Couple’. I have followed Saqib’s work and I really like him as an actor, he is a lot of fun to work with. We’ve done workshops and readings for this film and so far, its been great. It is also one of the first projects to go on floors in the lockdown, which is very exciting to see the whole transition and finally getting back to work. ‘Comedy Couple’ is about Zoya Batra (myself) and Deep Sharma (Saqib) who does stand-up together. It is about their interpersonal relationships, friendship, what they face as a couple and how they land on the jokes. The script is brilliant, fantastically written. It is an out and out comedy but also has drama, twists and a lot of romance too, basically, a com-rom.”

The Wait is Ending Soon

Wow, we got a glimpse of ‘Comedy Couple’ from the media release by the leading actors. I believe it’s going to be a chill-pill in these crucial times. A full-length movie on standup comedians is also one of the firsts. Brace yourself, the movie is set to be released on 21st October on ZEE5.
