Delhi Detective Saga: Love amidst mystery : Part 1

Naina waded through the bustling city of Delhi on her bike and reached a relatively isolated farmhouse that seemed to be overflowing with luxury.
As she entered the crime location, her heartbeat began to increase. It was the first murder case that she was going to be covering as a crime reporter. The editor of the newspaper called her in the morning and informed her about the incident. He wanted the first-hand report of the murder of a prominent businessman in his farmhouse, on the outskirts of Delhi. It would be published as the front page news in the newspaper. Naina knew that it was a big opportunity for her to shine and upgrade herself professionally.

“Excuse me, ma’am! You are not allowed to go inside. The crime spot is strictly off-limits to common people,” a constable stopped Naina from entering. The onlookers could not guess her profession owing to her young age and easy-going attitude. When stopped by the policeman, her excitement landed in the pool of embarrassment.

“Hello, I’m not just anyone from the crowd. You should check my ID card,” she asserted, “I’m Naina Desai, a Crime Reporter with ‘The Bugles’ Newspaper…..”

An officer of higher rank interrupted her.

“Ms. Naina Desai, nobody is allowed to enter until the primary investigation is complete. You may be a Crime Reporter or whatever, stop where you are, or else you will be charged with criminal trespass for entering the crime scene. Pardon me, I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Kabir Mehra, the detective handling the case.” A tall, handsome man was addressing her in an authoritative tone. His unmistakable accent left no place for misunderstanding. Naina stood still for quite a while. Her beautiful eyes grew wider and she managed to sit on a chair lying nearby.

“I swear he looks dashing! I am not able to take my eyes off him. Parul, you should have been here to know how I’m feeling right now!” Naina was on her cell phone after being denied entry to the crime spot. Parul and Naina were close friends and they had a habit of sharing every titbit.

The situation was not very comfortable for passionate emotions but hearts couldn’t be stopped from beating. Emotions flowed, as did the sentimental expressions.

Naina nearly forgot the purpose for which she was there. Her eyes continued to chase the handsome man with an authoritative voice while he was rushing in and out of the crime spot.

“Kabir Mehra is the name,” she chuckled while conveying that to her bestie, Parul, on the phone. She might have uttered the words somewhat loudly. Kabir turned back instantly. Eyes met, triggering opposite reactions in both of them. Naina hesitatingly turned her head away. Kabir, with a smile on his face, moved towards her slowly.

“Thanks for your patience, Ms Naina. Our primary investigation is complete and you can go inside to begin with the reporting. Please restrain yourself from touching the stuff lying around. Hope I do not sound rude. It’s our job and nobody can escape it;)”

Was that a warning to Naina?

Naina picked up her camera and hurried towards the hall where the dead body was found. She inquired about the hows and whats of the fateful episode from the people around. It was her duty to record the statements and craft a story based on them. When she came out after recording, her uneasiness was obvious. It was her first report on murder and the excitement level was high.
“You look worried. Any problem, Ms. Naina?” Kabir was apparently waiting for her.
“No, it’s all right. Thanks for asking.”

“Relax, it’s your first coverage of a murder. You’ll get used to it, soon.” He went inside.
